As Memorial Junior High School students walked into the gym for their school dance, they were shocked and awed by the room’s makeover. Doors draped with red streamers gave that V.I.P. Vegas feel to the eighth grade dance with a photobooth in Lansing, Illinois.
Check-in was decorated with giant playing cards, and lady luck was surely smiling at the hall leading to the gym and cafeteria that was decorated with red ceiling drapery and gold lighted trees. In the gym there were black streamers lit with Christmas lights hanging from the basketball hoops to the center part of the gym invoking the imagery of a massive roulette wheel, where a huge sign hung with the logo for the 8th grade dance.
The photobooth was a hit with party goers mingling in and around the booth. Students received commemorative photos strips featuring a Vegas theme, and mentioning the class of 2014. Props consisted of oversized goofy glasses, funny signs, LMFAO shades and funny hats of all kinds.
The DJ taught the kids to dance the Bachata and the Merengue, adding a spicy kick to the dance floor. Elvis shook the whole place up by stopping in and handing out beads to the kids at the school dance, before heading into the photobooth himself and snapping a few memories.
A Photo backdrop was set up in the cafeteria and young couples were able to take photos with their friends before heading towards a casino inspired night of dancing and friends. The Memorial Jr. High School PTA provided finger licking good corn dogs, cheese quesadillas, and chicken tenders to go along with the cake donated by Calumet Bakery and desserts . At the end of the school dance, students took home their own Class of 2014 t-shirts.
